Runaway Bride by SK Lessner

Runaway Bride by SK Lessner

Alien hunk ✔

Everything was ready and I was on my way to marry a gorgeous blue Tetran. The only thing stopping me? A domineering, egotistic alien. Who cares if he was sexy? Nobody ever said temptation was easy. And it certainly didn't matter if my toes curled when he kissed me. I refused to consider it.
Even if I started a war.
-------------------
Impossible.
She was human. I was a Tetran.
Although our species had been interbreeding, true lifemates had gone extinct ages ago. Yet, here she was, staring at me with a mixture of anger and awe as her heart started beating to the same rhythm as mine. She was beautiful. Absolutely perfect. And there was no way I was going to deliver her to my commander to marry.
Even if I started a war.

My Review:

Wow! I’ve not read many alien romance stories, but this one was awesome!
Fantastic world building, great imagery, and all written so well. I loved the humour throughout too.

Miranda has dreamed of marrying a Tetran, and now is finally her chance. Miranda unexpectedly finds herself drawn mean to Jules, the Tetran charged with escorting her safely from Earth. The problem is, she is betrothed to another.
The connection that binds them to one another is strong, and Jules knows with certainty, she is his lifemate. The only way to be together is to flee.

Their journey isn’t an easy one, especially when Miranda keeps getting herself into sticky situations.

Lots of action and drama with humour sprinkled throughout. Fantastic characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. And of course a love that continues to burn and build.

Loved it!

Jade by Sarah Jayne Carr

Jade by Sarah Jayne Carr

Blurb:

Jade Nash is a giver.
She gives up on hope.
She gives up on love.
She gives up on the truth.
What Jade doesn't anticipate is giving in to uprooting the past, especially when she vowed to never let it affect her future.

Seth McCullough is a breaker.
He breaks promises.
He breaks records.
He breaks hearts.
What Seth doesn't anticipate is breaking the cycle, especially when he vowed not to, because that would mean breaking the rules.

My Review:

Another phenomenal book by Miss Sarah Jayne Carr!

Jade is a bit of a hot mess. She's running from a past she can't forget, and she's trying to be a different person because of it. She's a bundle of nerves and emotions just waiting to explode.

Her soon to be step sister is getting married, and Jade has the all important role of matron of honour, only she doesn't really want to be there. Anal eyes, as the bride has so lovingly been nicknamed, makes constant remarks as to the state of Jade's finances and not being able to afford things, and her friend Paige, the bridesmaid from hell, will do and say anything to aggravate Jade, including corralling none other than Miles McCullough to walk down the aisle with her.

Miles is a seething, broody guy who happens to show up everywhere Jade is. He's been getting on her every nerve, and she can't stand him. But what makes it worse, is that everyone in Cannon Cove seems to know some dark secrets about the mysterious Miles, but no one will tell Jade.

These two must come together for the sake of the wedding, but their personalities clash like nothing else. Sparks certainly fly with these two.

There's laugh out loud moments, times you'll want to throw your kindle/book across the room because you're so angry (with a certain bridesmaid in particular), and times when the old heart strings will get a little tug.

Another well written book with so much attention to detail. I'm a little jealous I didn't write it myself.

The Poet by Lisa Renee Jones Blog tour!

Title: The Poet

Series: Samantha Jazz Series #1

Author: Lisa Renee Jones

Release Date: March 9, 2021

THE POET

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones brings a fresh, modern take to the thriller genre that will keep you guessing until the very end.

“The poet is a liar who always speaks the truth.” -Jean Cocteau

Some call him friend or boss.

Some call him husband or dad.

Some call him son, even a favorite son.

But the only title that matters to him is the one the media has given him: The Poet.

A name he earned from the written words he leaves behind after he kills that are as dark and mysterious as the reason he chooses his victims.

One word, two, three, a story in a poem, a secret that only Detective Samantha Jazz can solve. Because he’s writing this story for her.

She just doesn’t know it yet.

This title is a standalone that follows a single case. There is no cliffhanger. But the world of Samantha Jazz will continue with The Girl Who Forgot!

EXCERPT

I move on to what I know. “The Poet, an organized killer, a planner. Highly intelligent. Well employed. These types like to appear stable and we’re most likely looking at someone in a circle of family to shelter himself, even convince himself he’s normal. None of this is on paper. And I don’t feel like I have room for error on this one.”

“The Poet?”

“That’s what I’m calling him.”

“Whatever you call him, do you really think he’s a serial killer?”

“I know he’s a serial killer. We just have to find his victims.”

“I’ll get you your profile for peace of mind.”

“Thank you, Wade,” I say, gratitude in my voice.

“Thank me by being careful. If this asshole came after Roberts, you could be next.”

“If Roberts was his type, I am not.”

Be careful, Detective Jazz,” he says, and this time he uses his best Special Agent Wade Miller voice, the detective title meant to make the “I’m serious” point.

I am. I called you for a reason. I’m going to get him before he ever has the chance to get me.”

We disconnect a few seconds later and I pull up the poem compilation Chuck put together for me on my MacBook. I gravitate toward the poem The Poet left called “Fate, The Jester. His message could be in those few lines or in another verse inside the full poem. I read it all slowly, all eight paragraphs, dissecting each one, but I return to the three lines he left in Summer’s mouth:

Who laugh in the teeth of disaster,

Yet hope through the darkness to find

A road past the stars to a Master

A master, a statement that seems to reference superiority and drives home my earlier thoughts. The Poet judged Summer beneath him. Perhaps he judges us all beneath him. He believes he’s above the law, and that’s dangerous to those who come into contact with him.

That means I need to become dangerous to him, and quickly.

Out of the Ashes by Vanessa Evetts

Out of the Ashes by Vanessa Evetts

Blurb:

What would you do if you lost everyone you loved overnight?
How do you keep living when everything in you is screaming out in pain?

Grace Kingston had it all. A passionate marriage, two gorgeous children and a career she loved until they were ripped from her life in a hit and run.
Thrust into a life she didn’t choose, she battles under the weight of her grief, and the conflicting desire to honour their memory. When she finds a handwritten bucket list in her son’s bedroom, she sells everything she owns and takes off on a quest that transforms her.

Conquering some of her greatest fears and insecurities, across three continents, Grace is faced with a decision. Does she keep living her life in survival mode, clinging to the memory of her husband and children, or does she release them from her tight grasp and build a new life without them?
What will it take to claim a life, filled to the brim with the passion and joy she desires? This raw, breathtaking story delves into the darkest places of grief and reveals the beauty that rises out of the ashes.

My Review:

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book quite like this before. The utter grief and despair Grace suffered at the death of her family was so heartbreaking, but I loved following her journey to reclaim her life and overcome the pain she’d endured.

Right from the first lines, you can feel her agony. You’re pulled into her torment with her. It’s raw and savage, and oh so real.

And then slowly, one step at a time, her healing begins and she embarks on an adventure following a bucket list of sorts; one created with her family. With every new place she visits and each new adventure, she begins to come to terms with her grief and is able to find peace.

It’s a roller coaster journey of emotions, and one I would recommend.

My Review:

3.5 stars for this M/M holiday romance.

Max is an overworked lawyer trying to make partner. He hasn’t been back home to Edgewood in years and has no intention of ever doing so, but when his best friend calls and asks him to come to help with his girls, he struggles to say no.

Dominic is Hal’s (the best friend) younger brother who has had a crush on Max for years. When he finally lays eyes on Max again, those feelings come rushing back, but he doesn’t know what to do about it.

These two are quite cute together. One is a bit more forward and sure of himself where the other is a little more reserved. They compliment each other.

The stars of the story for me though were Hal’s girls. Marnie and Steph were adorable and oh so loveable.

Cute story for the holiday season.
